  1. Dub’s High On the Hog in Calhoun, GA 

People drive hours to taste the real southern food at Dub’s High On The Hog. You’ll get that small-town cozy atmosphere, with the out-of-this-world BBQ flavors that you crave. Some local favorites include the fall-of-the-bone ribs, cooked-to-perfection steaks and the Brunswick stew. Don’t forget to try their classic sides from potato salad and baked beans to slaw and okra.   1. Christian & Jake’s Bistro in Calhoun, GA 

Family-owned and operated, Christian & Jake’s is a must-try for lunch. They’re renowned for their fresh soups and sandwiches (reviewers especially love the reuben or the turkey). They also have vegetarian options and different specials every day. Make sure to leave room for a mouth-watering dessert! They have tons of homemade sweets to choose from daily such as coconut cream pie, carrot cake, flourless chocolate cake and creme brulee cheesecake. It’s bound to be a memorable and scrumptious meal.

  1. Yellow Jacket Drive In in Calhoun, GA 

In business since the 1960’s, Yellow Jacket Drive In has become a historical landmark in Gordon County. There’s a reason they’ve lasted so long! You’ll be blown away by their juicy hamburgers and butter-smooth milkshakes. Their onion rings are made fresh with real onions, hand breaded and then deep fried until golden brown. In traditional drive-in style, you’ll order through a window and take a number. Then, you can choose to eat in their indoor dining, out of your car like the good-old-days or al fresca at the outdoor picnic tables. Nostalgia never tasted so good.

  1. Bowman’s Restaurant in Resaca, GA

There’s nothing like grandma’s home cooking with farm-to-table ingredients! Bowman’s Restaurant is the go-to spot for your comfort food cravings. Locals love how the food is made with the freshest meats and vegetables. They have all the best southern foods from hearty mashed potatoes and meatloaf to made-from-scratch banana pudding and strawberry shortcake. The portions are big and the food is always delicious.   1. KC’s Corner in Fairmount, GA

Another local gem, KC’s Corner has been locally owned and operated since 1969. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, you can’t go wrong with a meal at KC’s. They have all the tastiest southern foods you love, as well as American classics like philly cheese steaks, burgers and pizza. All around town, they’re known for their homemade biscuits with gravy and warm cinnamon rolls. We’re already drooling thinking about them!

  1. Chuckwagon Restaurant in Calhoun, GA

At Chuckwagon Restaurant, customers are treated like family. From the rustic, old-fashioned decor to the heart-warming meals, this is another hole-in-the-wall on the top of the locals’ favorite list. Their specials change daily, but you can always count on homemade southern goodness. Make sure to try the catfish and the chicken fried steak!

  1. Big John’s Treat Shoppe in Calhoun, GA 

Last but certainly not least, Big John’s Treat Shoppe just won Calhoun Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards for Best Hamburger and Best Wait Staff in Northwest Georgia. They also make a ton of other tasty southern dishes from BBQ to wings and peach cobbler. The atmosphere is homey and diner style, where you can read their daily specials off a chalkboard. Per the reviews, you have to try the sweet tea!
