First on our list is Calhoun’s renowned Rock Garden. Get ready for your imagination to soar as you explore this whimsical walking trail. Filled with over 50 miniature buildings crafted from tiny stones, pebbles, shells and other natural pieces, this site is a must-see! Don’t forget your camera for pictures and consider packing a nice picnic to enjoy. 

2. Spend the Day at Salacoa Creek Park Beach

Grab your swim trunks and get ready to savor the sunshine at one of Gordon County’s hidden gems! Salacoa Creek Park beach is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day with a lifeguard always on duty. After an afternoon of swimming and tanning, stroll over to the concession stand for some snacks. They also have a boat launch, boat rentals and fishing.

3. Play the Course at Fields Ferry

If you’re interested in a more skill-oriented activity, Fields Ferry offers challenging play for golfers of every level. Take in the terrific views and well-groomed fairways, as you perfect your swing with tips from the friendly staff. 4. Explore Gordon County’s Farmers’ Markets

With all of Georgia’s delicious summer produce, you can’t miss this one on our list! From peaches to watermelon, sweet corn and tomatoes, there’s so much to taste. Gordon County has two local farmers’ markets, one in Calhoun and the other in Resaca. View the times and locations below and don’t forget to let us know what yummy food you pick up! 

Calhoun: Monday & Thursday from 11am-2pm at the Calhoun Depot 
• Resaca: Every Saturday from 8am-12pm at the Resaca Rec. Center 

5. Cool off at Gordon County’s Splash Pad

Located at the Sonoraville Recreation Complex, this Calhoun splash pad is a hot summer spot for families. When you have an hour or two to spare, there’s no better way to have some quick fun. Kids love being sprayed by the water jets with their friends and it’s a great way to stay active. Summer hours are 10am-8pm, 7 days a week. Happy splashing!

6. Hit the Trails at John’s Mountain Wildlife Management Area

To really appreciate Gordon County’s splendor, spend the day immersed in nature at John’s Mountain Wildlife Management Area! They have hiking trails, bike trails, equestrian trails and plenty of picnic sites to enjoy some snacks. With beautiful streams, unique plants and breathtaking views, you’ll love exploring the great outdoors. You might even spot wildlife on your trek like turkey, deer or even a bear!
